Wow, I found this site way too late. This an excellent source of information in the field of maritime history. I'm glad I came across the website. Especially because I am fervently looking for some maps illustrating the 16-17th century English contacts with other nations at sea, predominantly with the French, Dutch, the Portuguese and the Spanish. Can you please refer me to the sites that contain such maps? I've been surfing the web but I could not find anything specific. I'd appreciate any help. My e-mail is over_the_moon(at)tlen.pl or I'll keep checking here for the answer. Thanks in advance!

Look at the map libraries. Osher at USM in Portland Maine, the John Carter Brown Library, Library of Congress, Canadian National Library but there are many more, too many to list.

Linc,

you might want to note that some of these journals like American Neptune, Maritime Life and Traditions, The Log of Mystic Seaport have gone under.

Don't forget Signals, the esteemed quarterly colour journal of the Australian National Maritime. Members of the museum get it free, and out-of-port membership is quite cheap ... info about Members at http://www.anmm.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=398. It's also widely circulated, free, to maritime museums and organisations around the world so if you want to you can contact the editor jmellefont@anmm.gov.au

Update on sshsa.org

The Steamship Historical Society of America is celebrating its 75th year as the resource of maritime history. The society has re-designed and re-titled its official member magazine.

Formerly titled "Steamboat Bill," the SSHSA magazine is now titled "PowerShips."

"PowerShips" presents in-depth articles and columns about the history of engine powered vessels, published in full-color.

The non-profit Steamship Historical Society of America is a vital resource for maritime history information and materials.

The society's library collection contains more than 200,000 maritime photographic images and tens of thousands of periodicals, special reports, brochures, records and more.
